DIY Christmas Curtains

Almost 3 years ago I made all the curtains in our home. I had so much to do, so little time and lots of curtains to make, I definitely made a few mistakes. But I loved my curtains and so I’ve kept them up every.single.season in these 3 years {see them here, here and here}. I’m not replacing them anytime soon, but I just could not let them be up for Christmas again. I mean, seriously! Floral in December? No thank you.

I also didn’t like the price of already-made curtains. Ouch. So I decided I’d go get some fabric at Hobby Lobby and whip up some curtains for Christmas. Well, long story short, I was only half done with my errands when Little Man decided he wanted his nap early. I spotted the perfect design I wanted- as a tablecloth in Target. My mom once made me & her matching skirts and a dress for my sister out of sheets, I could make curtains out of a tablecloth, right? And the price….$15.99? I couldn’t have gotten 2 nice yards of fabric for that. And the best part? The width was the exact width I needed! It was meant to be. Now, I just had half a table cloth to use up.

So, after Little Man was down for his nap, I got to cutting. After starting to hem up and make the curtains, I realized I hadn’t sewn since I made curtains 3 years earlier! I couldn’t believe it. Now, I’m not going to tell you exactly how to make curtains- make them fit your windows! Since I used a tablecloth, I was able to only sew half of the seams since they were already half done.

So what did I decide to do with the other half of the cloth? I made up a valence for my kitchen window- and now they matched! I still had some more fabric, so I’m planning on making a big throw pillow to go with the curtains; but that’s a project for another day!

Do you put up Christmas curtains or leave your old ones up?
