Have you heard the term “the Lord’s promises”? Ever wonder how He “proves Himself faithful”? Last week, He did just that.
In August, I had a miscarriage. My husband and I weren’t trying- but we were so excited! We were going to have a baby! We didn’t tell anyone right away- we wanted to wait until we could tell both of our families at once. That never got to happen.
I found out I was pregnant on a Tuesday. On Thursday morning I was bleeding. My family doesn’t have a history of miscarriages, so when I got pregnant, that thought never crossed my mind. The bleeding got heavier and I was in a lot of pain. I had lost my baby.
I was at my sister-in-laws house, watching her boys during the day while she was out of town. My herbalist gave me a list of herbs to take to help ease my cramps. I layered on the oils. I called my mom and told her. She promised to bring the herbs later. I called my cousin Emily (who, just three short months ago, was my maid-of-honor) and told her, trying not to cry. She gave me comfort, then I went back to watching the boys. My cramps got worse , so I called my mother-in-law to come watch the boys (her grandchildren). She prayed with me, gave me some advice and sent me home to rest.
That was one of the roughest weekends of my entire life. After a while, my tears dried up. My cramps stopped. I didn’t know how to feel. In that short week, I had so many emotions go through me. The Lord was teaching me something. I don’t know what that is yet. But He knows. I’m thankful for that experience He brought me through.
A dear friend from church gave me and Luke a white rose bush in memory of our baby. She said it had already had white blooms on it. By the time I got it, there weren’t any blooms and I didn’t figure it would bloom again this year. I was wrong.
Last week, the bush had a bud. A pink bud. I seriously kept thinking it was just going to change to white. It has to. It’s not a pink bush! That’s so strange. But nope, it kept on opening to the most beautiful soft pink. I had always prayed for a girl first. The Lord answered my prayers! The two words that just kept sticking with me was ‘promises’ and ‘faithful’. The Lord keeps His promises and proves Himself faithful. He really does!
That’s the picture I posted of the rose on instagram. Isn’t it pretty? The day I posted that picture, I called my cousin, Emily, to catch up. She was quite amazed at the rose. She said the word that kept coming to her was ‘promises’. Amazing, isn’t it?
During my Bible time last week, I was looking at the OT people and how God was faithful in keeping His promises to them. But we’re called to be faithful to Him and to His word. Here are some of the verses that popped up to me about promises and being Faithful.
*Psalms 86:15 – But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
*Deuteronomy 7:9 – Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.
*2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
*Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. (Jesus speaking)
*1 Corinthians 10:13 – There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
That last verse even applies to me in this situation. I’ve known of many girls, very recently, who have lost their babies. Some of them are not looking to Christ in this. They wallow in bitterness, hurt and sadness. To feel like that can be a temptation. That’s not how Christ wants us to live- ruled by fear, sadness or hurt. He is there for us, with us and knew this was going to happen before it happened. Nothing takes God by surprise. Everything happens to help grow us as people. And God won’t give us more than we can handle.
Aren’t you thankful for the God we serve? I am more in love with Him and am thankful for His mercy and grace more each day.
What verses help you in times of sadness or hurt? Did anyone help you see the blessings of the trial you were in?
What an awesome, faithful father we have!
Yes, indeed!
I’m so sorry to hear about this, Hannah. 😦 I hope God continues to comfort and strengthen you.
This post gave me chills. God is definitely faithful, sometimes it’s just hard to be patient and wait on His plan to reveal itself.
Yes, it is hard to be patient! Thank you for your comment. I hope you have a lovely weekend!
Congrats Sister!! ❤
