Trying Your Hardest

Y’all, marriage is hard work. Sometimes. I love being married. Yes, I’ve only been married for 6 months, but we’ve had a lot happen in that time. Things we didn’t plan for– like getting pregnant twice and miscarrying twice. Anyone who has miscarried or lost a baby understand…there’s a lot of emotions- good and bad- that happen in that time. But do you know what the biggest thing I’ve learned in the short time I’ve been married?

Trying your hardest…your best efforts….they aren’t good enough.

Trying Your Hardest

As with anything in life- trying our hardest, doing our best, isn’t going to cut it. We need lots of help, lots of grace. Grace given from your spouse, given to your spouse and grace from God!

You have to lean fully, wholly, on Christ. A marriage will not work without Him. It won’t. And we’re not suppose to carry the weight of our whole marriage on our shoulders. Or feel like we can’t give unless we will get something back. Marriage is not 50/50. It will crumble that way. It has to be 100/100 with both the husband and wife leaning on Christ for fulfillment and complete peace.

Because, you know what? Your spouse isn’t perfect. And I don’t figure you are either. So, for the sake of your marriage (and the sanity of yourself and your spouse), look to Christ for fulfillment and lean fully on Him.

Oh, and show lots of grace. And love.

Because Christ shows you grace and love. Your spouse may not show you grace and love, but you are still called to give it to them.

Single people– marriage is great, but it’s not perfect. Just like anything else, it has it’s ups and downs.

Enjoy life– where ever God has put you. He put you there for a reason.

Sincerely,
Hannah Diane

P.S. I have the most loving, grace-showing husband. And I am so thankful. ❤

  1. I loved is! And it is so so true. We work with young people in our church and they are always seeming to be in a hurry for this phase of their life to be over and I keep telling them the same message. God has a reason for why you are here in this situation right now. He has a purpose. Look for it and walk in it. 🙂 thanks for sharing!

  2. Hannah, your willingness to be so open about your experiences and marriage is such a blessing! You are so right about each needing to give 100% not 50/50. Have your read the book Sacred Marriage? If not, I think you would really like it. 🙂 I enjoy reading your blog everyday.

  3. This: “Marriage is not 50/50. It will crumble that way. It has to be 100/100 with both the husband and wife leaning on Christ for fulfillment and complete peace.” is the KEY!
